About arthouse

Unique self-built property on the Vest in Dordrecht

Arthouse B&B is located in the historic heart of Dordrecht, built upon the remains of the city’s ancient walls. The B&B is part of a contemporary architect-designed home, completed in 2016, and is situated on the ground floor.

Arthouse Bed & Breakfast

Ideally located in the heart of Dordrecht, Arthouse B&B is the perfect base for discovering the city’s many attractions and exploring nearby highlights such as Kinderdijk and the Biesbosch National Park. Rotterdam is just a short train ride away, with the station conveniently located nearby.

The name Arthouse reflects both its unique location and its artistic character. Situated in the heart of Dordrecht, the B&B is surrounded by the city’s most important cultural venues, including the Dordrechts Museum, Hof van Holland, the Dordtse Schouwburg (Kunstmin) and the De Witt Arthouse Cinema. The house also bears the signature of renowned Dordrecht artist Rein Dool, who played an important role in its design. His artistic influence can be seen in details such as the bronze front door, the wrought-iron window decorations and the various artworks displayed throughout the Arthouse.

Construction of the Arthouse

Built on the remains of Dordrecht’s old city walls, the house is located at the edge of the medieval city centre, with a private garden overlooking the historic city moat. After the Municipality of Dordrecht made this unique plot available, Letty and Cor acquired the land and worked with Dordrecht architect Andries Lugten to create the design for the house, which was completed in 2016.

The house is characterised by its classical architectural style, distinctive round windows and the warm brick colour inspired by the Dordrechts Museum directly opposite. This thoughtful design allows the building to blend seamlessly into the historic cityscape. For the wrought-iron railings and the bronze entrance door, Letty and Cor collaborated with Dordrecht artist Rein Dool, who created his iconic “heads” specifically for these unique features.
